The Albin 49 Tri-Cabin is a heavily built trunk cabin trawler with walkaround side decks, a notably seakindly hull, and generous interior accommodations. Constructed on a semi-displacement hull with a fine entry and a relatively deep keel, this is a comfortable long-range cruiser for those more interested in economical operation that high-speed performance. While she doesn’t have the raised, full-width afterdeck of many newer aft-cabin yachts, her full walkaround decks and protective overhangs will appeal to a great many experienced boaters. The Tri-Cabin designation refers to the number of staterooms—there are three in the Albin 49, each with a double berth (albeit a slide-out affair in the forward stateroom). There are bathtubs in both heads which is certainly unusual. A staircase in the pilothouse leads provides easy flybridge access, a notable feature in a boat this size. The teak joinery, which is abundant, is well crafted although it makes the interior dark and a little oppressive. Several engine options were offered during her production years. Among the most popular, twin 120/135hp Lehman diesels cruise at 8–9 knots with a cruising range of about 750 miles.
