Island Gypsy 44 Motor Cruiser
The Island Gypsy 44 Motor Cruiser is a well-regarded flybridge cruiser with just a hint of her trawler heritage. She was built in Mainland China on a solid fiberglass semi-displacement hull with hard aft chines and a full-length, prop-protecting keel. Her three-stateroom, two-head interior is rare in a boat this size—most boats under 48 feet have only two staterooms. The master stateroom with double berth and private head is amidships where the ride is most comfortable. The bow stateroom has a traditional V-berth, and single over/under berths are found in the second guest stateroom t starboard. (None of the staterooms in the Island Gypsy 44 can be described as large.) The galley is forward in the salon, opposite the lower helm. The 44’s extensive interior woodwork is crafted from grain-matched Burmese teak. Topside, the helm console is aft on the bridge with guest seating forward. The extended flybridge shades the cockpit, and fold-out steps in the flybridge coaming provide access to the foredeck. Teak decks and exterior trim were standard. Cummins 250hp diesels cruise at 12 knots (15 knots top), and 375hp Cats cruise at 15 knots (20 knots top).
