Island Gypsy
32 Sedan
1981–2000
A popular model for many years, the Island Gypsy 32 Sedan remains among the smaller Asian-built trawlers imported into the U.S. market. She was built off and on by Halverson Marine for many years, and while the Island Gypsy 32 never enjoyed the popularity of the Grand Banks 32, she compares well with her counterpart in construction quality and finish. Built in China, the hull is solid fiberglass with hard aft chines, a full-length keel, and a skeg-mounted rudder for protection of the running gear. Stepping inside from the roomy cockpit, the salon/pilothouse area is arranged with a convertible L-shaped dinette to starboard and a two-person settee opposite. A fully equipped galley (with oven) is across from the lower helm. Forward is the stateroom—offered with V-berths or an offset double berth—as well as an adult-sized head compartment. As it was with nearly all Asian-built trawlers of her era, the interior is completely finished with hand-crafted teak cabinets and trim. Additional features include teak decks, bronze deck hardware, teak swim platform, and teak bow pulpit. A single 135hp Lehman diesel will cruise at 7 knots. Later models with a single 210hp Cummins engine will cruise at 8–9 knots.
