Island Gypsy

32 Europa

1989–2003

Island Gypsy 32 Europa
For many boating enthusiasts, the classic styling of the Island Gypsy 32 Europa is about as good as it gets in a small sedan trawler. (She is, to the best of our knowledge, the smallest Europa model produced by any manufacturer.) Built in China in a solid fiberglass semi-displacement hull with a shallow, full-length keel, the 32 Europa’s wide 12-foot beam offers considerable living space below in spite of her wide side decks. Stepping inside from the roomy cockpit, the salon/pilothouse is arranged with a convertible L-shaped dinette to starboard and a two-person settee opposite. A fully equipped galley (with oven) is forward to port, across from the lower helm. Forward is a single stateroom with a centerline island berth. A space-saving split head has a stall shower to port and the toilet/sink to starboard. As it was with all Asian-built trawlers of her era, the entire interior is finished with hand-crafted teak cabinets and trim. The aft deck and side decks of the Europa—also teak—are sheltered by bridge overhangs, and the flybridge is arranged with the helm forward and guest seating aft. A single 135hp Lehman diesel will cruise at 7 knots. Later models with a single 210hp Cummins engine cruise at 8–9 knots.
