Island Gypsy
40 Sedan
1986–94
A versatile boat with a distinctive appearance, the Island Gypsy 40 Motor Cruiser is built on a semi-displacement hull with a wide beam, hard chines, and a full-length prop-protecting keel. Her cockpit is on the same level as the salon resulting in a wide-open and completely practical sedan-style floorplan—the ideal cruising layout in the eyes of many. There are two staterooms forward and the head has a separate stall shower. The L-shaped galley configuration is unusual in a boat this size—it does chop the salon up a bit, but the added counter space is a blessing. Burmese teak is liberally applied throughout the interior, and the decks and rails are teak as well. Topside, the flybridge is arranged with the helm aft and lounge seating (including a table) forward of the console. Note that the cockpit is shaded by a flybridge extension. Additional features include a sliding deck access door in the salon, a well-arranged engine room, and a swim platform. Twin 135hp Lehman diesels were standard (8 knots at cruise/11 knots top), and twin 210hp Cummins (12 knots cruise/15 top) or 375hp Cats (18 knots cruise/22 knots top) were optional.
