Island Gypsy

40 Flush Aft Deck

1986–94

Island Gypsy 40 Flush Aft Deck
The Island Gypsy 40 Flush Aft Deck is a durable aft-cabin cruiser with a distinctive profile (note the slightly elongated deckhouse and small aft deck) to go with her trawler-style appearance. Like most Island Gypsy boats of her era, she was built on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate beam and a deep, prop-protecting keel. The interior is arranged with two staterooms, each about the same size, with centerline queen berths and separate stall showers in both heads. The galley is aft to port in the salon (rather than forward, which is usually the norm), and a deck access door is located at the lower helm. The Burmese woodwork found throughout the interior is finished to exceptionally high standards. The flybridge layout is somewhat unusual—most trawlers have the helm forward on the flybridge, but the Island Gypsy 40 has the helm aft with lounge seating (and a table) forward. Wide side decks make getting around easy and secure. Twin 135hp Lehman diesels were standard in early models (8 knots cruise/11 knots top). Twin 210hp Cummins (12 knots cruise/15 knots top) eventually became standard engine, and 375hp Cats (19 knots cruise/22 knots top) were optional.
