Island Gypsy

40 Classic

1995–98

Island Gypsy 40 Classic
The original Island Gypsy 40 Classic was designed as a throwback to the traditional trunk cabin trawlers made popular during the 1970s and early 1980s. A salty boat with a stepped sheer, she was redesigned in 1995 with a straight sheer and a slightly revised flybridge. The result is a more modern boat with a lot of eye appeal to go with her affordable price. The solid fiberglass semi-displacement hull of the Classic has a wide beam with hard chines aft and a full-length prop-protecting keel. The original three-stateroom floorplan was eventually replaced by a more spacious two-stateroom layout. Both heads have stall showers, and of course a lower helm was standard. There are also deck doors port and starboard in both models. Additional features include a functional mast and boom assembly, teak swim platform, teak-and-holly cabin sole, aluminum-frame windows, and wide walkaround side decks. A pair of 210hp Cummins diesels cruise the Island Gypsy 40 Classic at 12 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 14–15 knots.
