Island Gypsy
36 Classic
1978–2001
Same as 36 Quad Cabin
A durable coastal cruiser with distinctive lines, the Island Gypsy 36 Classic combines traditional trawler styling with roomy accommodations and economical operation. She’s heavily built on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate beam and a full-length, prop-protecting keel. Several two-stateroom floorplans were offered in the 36 Classic during her production years, all with the galley in the salon, either forward to port or starboard, aft of the helm seat. An L-shaped dinette in the salon converts to a double berth, and port and starboard doors provide easy deck access. A choice of V-berths or a centerline queen berth was offered in the forward guest stateroom, while twin berths or a queen berth was available in the master stateroom. Like many Asian-built trawlers, the 36 Classic came with a full teak interior as well teak decks and teak handrails. Topside, the flybridge is arranged with the helm forward and guest seating aft. Note the teak-and-holly cabin sole, folding mast and boom, bow pulpit, and teak swim platform. Cruise at 7–8 knots with a single 135hp Lehman diesel. Twin diesels cruise easily at 10 knots.
