Sea Ranger
52 Motor Yacht
1987–89
The Sea Ranger 52 is a contemporary Taiwan-built motor yacht with a modern profile and a spacious, fully enclosed aft deck. Like all Sea Ranger models, she was built on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate deadrise at the transom, and her 15-foot, 4-inch beam is relatively narrow compared with many other 52-foot yachts. (Note that the upside of a narrow beam is usually a more easily-driven and efficient hull.) The Sea Ranger 52 MY was a fairly popular boat during her production years thanks to her affordable price and her traditional all-teak interior, a feature that—when done right—added great cost to most U.S.-built motor yachts of her era. The standard three-stateroom, galley dinette-down floorplan is arranged with the second guest cabin aft of the salon. The enclosed aft deck of the 52 is actually a fully paneled and air-conditioned second salon with port and starboard wing doors for deck access. Topside, the flybridge helm is forward and on the centerline, and there’s a small aft deck area at the stern for line handling. A good-running boat with 375hp Cat diesels, the Sea Ranger 52 MY will cruise efficiently at 16 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 18–19 knots.
