Uniflite 48 Yacht Fisherman
The Uniflite 48 Yacht Fisherman is basically a Uniflite 42 Double Cabin with a 6-foot cockpit extension. Not only does the increased waterline length add a knot or two to her performance, but the 48’s lengthened profile is more pleasing than the 42 DC’s ever was. A side benefit of the cockpit is the ability to move the generator from the engine room (where the noise can be heard in the salon above) to beneath the cockpit sole where noise and vibration are kept well away from the interior. The galley-down, two-stateroom layout of the 48 YF is identical to that of the 42 DC—a floorplan notable for its wide-open salon. There are twin beds in the aft stateroom, and a passageway between the beds provides direct access to the cockpit. Note that a portside lower helm was optional. A bow pulpit, aft deck wet bar, swim platform, and hardtop were standard. Built on an efficient hull, the Uniflite 48 YF will cruise at 19 knots (about 22 knots top) with 310hp 6-71 diesels. With 410hp 6-71s, the cruising speed jumps to 23 knots (25–26 knots top). When the Uniflite factory closed in 1984, the molds were acquired by Chris Craft who reintroduced her the following year as the 480 Catalina—a very popular model.
