Symbol Yachts 44 Motor Yacht
From a distance, the Symbol 44 MY can easily be confused with the old Hatteras 43 Motor Yacht. That’s probably no accident; Symbol was trying to establish a foothold in the U.S. market in the early 1980s and emulating the Hatteras “look” had its advantages. Built on a solid fiberglass modified-V hull with average beam and a shallow keel, the flush-deck design of the Symbol 44 places the lower helm on the afterdeck level, which provides much better visibility than if it were in the salon. As is the case with most Taiwan imports, the interior is fully paneled with traditional teak woodwork. The standard two-stateroom floorplan has the galley down, while the optional three-stateroom layout is arranged with the galley forward in the salon and over/under bunks in a second guest cabin. Topside, the flybridge is small compared with those of more modern boats with seating for just a couple of guests. Additional features include aft-deck wing doors, wide side decks, a bow pulpit and a swim platform. Among several engine options, twin 450hp GM 6-71 diesels cruise the Symbol 44 at around 20 knots and top out in the low 20s.
