42 Sundeck
2000–02
Considering the lasting popularity of sundeck yachts on the used market, it’s no surprise that more and more of these designs have been introduced in recent years. With the 42 Motor Yacht, Symbol produced something that many cruising families may find very attractive. She’s built on the same semi-displacement hull used for the older Present 42 Sundeck (a popular boat back in the 1980s), but the deck and superstructure tooling are mostly new. Offered with the galley up or down, the traditional teak interior of the Symbol is extremely well finished. A lower helm is standard in both layouts, and the galley-down version has a second deck access door opposite the helm. Note that both heads are fitted with separate stall showers. In the single-engine version—which comes standard with a bow thruster—the engine room, reached via hinged aft salon steps, is huge. Additional features include wide side decks supported by raised bulwarks, a large flybridge with an L-shaped dinette aft of the helm, full-length keel, fiberglass fuel tanks (a big plus in any boat), and a bow pulpit. A single 420hp Cat diesel will cruise at 10 knots, and twin 330hp Cummins diesels cruise at 16–17 knots.
