48 Express Cruiser
2003–10
Armed with Arneson surface drive propulsion, the Fountain 48 Express cruiser didn’t just raise the performance bar for big express boats of her era; she set an entirely new standard. Speed is what this popular sportster is all about, something she achieves with extraordinary ease thanks to her lightweight stepped hull. A cockpit is equipped with two 250-quart macerating in-sole fish boxes, two above deck livewells, and a well-positioned tackle center. The cockpit lounge has a removable table and seating for eight, and the aft section converts to a sun pad at the push of a button. Below decks, the well-finished cabin offers 6'3" headroom, high-gloss cherry laminate cabinetry, and a full galley with microwave, fridge, and stainless steel sink. The dinette converts to a large V-berth, and two more can sleep in a double berth tucked under the bridge deck. The original interior had two heads; beginning in 2009, there’s only one. Both chairs at the helm have power seats that drop to form bolsters. Equipped with triple 480hp Cummins surface drive diesels, the 48 EC will cruise at 35 knots (low 40s top). Outboard models with triple or quad Verados can exceed 70 knots.
