38 Express Cruiser
2002–09
The Fountain name has long been synonymous with quality and performance, so it’s hardly a surprise that the 38 Express Cruiser is one of the fastest, best-handling boats in her class. One look at this sleek speedster and you know she’s a Fountain; the dual helm is similar to a Fountain racing boat with the throttles to the left of the wheel for two-person operation. The 38 rides on a slender deep-V hull with twin steps and Fountain’s signature notched transom and pad keel. Like all express cruiser designs, the Fountain 38 is designed for entertaining. The cockpit, which seats eight, is arranged with electric drop-down bolster seats at the helm, companion lounge, U-shaped lounge seating aft, and a wet bar with icemaker. Below, the narrow beam of the Fountain results in compact accommodations for a 38-foot boat. The master stateroom is comfortable enough, but the aft stateroom is claustrophobic and the salon dimensions are modest. A motorized engine hatch, high-performance trim tabs, and radar arch are standard. Quality doesn’t come cheap, and besides being fast, the 38 Express Cruiser is an expensive boat. Twin 425hp MerCruiser gas sterndrives will reach a top speed in excess of 50 knots.
