Viking Sport Cruisers
40 Flybridge
2000–02
Introduced in England as the Princess 40 in 1998, the 40 Flybridge made her debut in the U.S. in 2000 as the smallest in Viking’s expanding fleet of British-built sport cruisers. She’s constructed on a good-running deep-V hull with prop pockets and an extended swim platform capable of carrying a personal watercraft. The contemporary two-stateroom interior of the Viking 40, with its high-gloss cherry woodwork and designer fabrics, is arranged with a step-down galley and a notably well-arranged lower helm position. A separate stall shower is found in the owner’s head, and the guest cabin is tucked beneath the helm station above. In the cockpit, a large in-floor hatch provides easy access to a rather tight engine room. (Note that an expanded lazarette abaft the engine room houses the generator.) Molded steps ascend from the cockpit to the flybridge where a U-shaped settee and an aft sun lounge were standard. Additional features include a radar mast, transom door, wide side decks, a cockpit shower, and sliding, stainless-steel-framed salon doors. Twin 370hp Volvo (or 350hp Cat) diesels cruise the Viking 40 at 25 knots and reach a top speed of about 30 knots.
