Viking Sport Cruisers
38 Flybridge
1996–97
One of the first Princess models to be marketed in the U.S. under the Viking brand, the 38 Flybridge is a well finished UK-built import with all of the attributes expected in a European sport cruiser of her era. She rides on a solid fiberglass, deep-V hull with moderate beam, prop pockets to reduce the shaft angles, and a fully integrated swim platform. Her contemporary two-stateroom, galley-down interior is arranged with an elevated lower helm (with twin helm seats) forward of a relatively small salon with a convertible U-shaped lounge opposite a settee. The spacious owner’s suite is situated in the bow with direct access to the ensuite head compartment. The second cabin is fitted with twin berths and offers good headroom thanks to its position below the helm station. There’s plenty of seating space in the cockpit (mostly shaded by a flybridge overhang), and molded steps at the corners lead up to wide side decks. Access to the flybridge is via a single-piece molded stairway against the forward bulkhead of the cockpit. Among several diesel engine options, a pair of 350hp Cats cruise the 38 Sport Cruiser at 24–25 knots and deliver a top speed in the neighborhood of 30 knots.
