The Intrepid 395 is a revised and improved version of the company’s earlier inboard-powered 38 Evolution. She rides on a high-performance stepped hull, an increasingly popular bottom design that aerates the water flow beneath the aft running surface to reduce hull drag. The result is a faster boat, quicker to plane and more efficient at cruising speeds. Behind her muscular good looks, the walkaround layout of the 395 is well suited for serious fishing pursuits although her relatively narrow beam doesn’t provide the interior volume found in other big express fishermen her size. With no windshield, the centerline helm—positioned aft of a U-shaped lounge on the bridgedeck—receives little protection from wind and spray. Note that with the tower mounted inboard, the deep side decks provide excellent movement around the house. Belowdecks, the small but well-appointed cabin will sleep four and includes a full galley, an athwartships double berth, and a large standup head compartment. Among several engine options, twin 420hp Cat diesels cruise easily in the high 20s and reach a top speed of 32–33 knots.
