48 Golden Egg

With her long foredeck and muscular big-boat profile, the Egg Harbor 48 Sport Fisherman represented the last of the classic old-style Egg Harbor convertible designs. She was built on a low-deadrise modified-V hull with a moderate beam, a shallow keel and a well-flared bow. Aimed at the luxury end of the sportfishing market, she was originally offered in either a two- or three-stateroom layout with a large portside master stateroom. The floorplans were revised in 1982 when the galley became a permanent part of the salon, and a new teak interior replaced the mahogany woodwork found in earlier models. Notably, the Egg Harbor 48 was one of the first production boats fitted out with the early 550hp 8V92 diesels resulting in a fast 25-knot cruising speed. (Fast indeed for 1978; very few other production boats her size could run with her.) Additional features include a very spacious engine room with flooring all around the motors, teak cockpit sole and covering boards, a spacious main salon with overhead handrails, and large wraparound cabin windows. (Note that late model Egg Harbor 48s have a solid front windshield.)
