Contender
25 Open
2008–11
Older versions of the Contender 25 are icons with serious South Florida anglers. Offered in several configurations over the years including notched-transom and bracket designs, in 2008 a major redesign introduced a new Eurostyle transom that brought a significant bump in performance as well as looks. Built on a lightweight deep-V hull with an aggressive 24.5 degrees of transom deadrise, the Contender’s hullsides are balsa-cored and the sole and stringers are cored with Klegecell. The cockpit is designed with wide walkways around the console and recessed bow rails to decrease fishing line snags. Standard features include a self-bailing cockpit, one piece flush deck, 38-gallon above-deck livewell, and up to 240 gallons of fuel capacity. A choice of consoles allowed for considerable owner customization. A large lazarette on the centerline provides easy access to the bilge pumps. The superior ride is due to the increased running surface of the integrated transom which is part of the hull and not a separate bolt-on bracket. A legendary open-water performer, twin 250hp Yamaha outboards reach a top speed north of 45 knots.
