Contender

25 Open

1984–96

Contender’s first boat, the 25 Open is a high-performance, full-transom center console fisherman whose deep-V hull, solid construction, and space-efficient deck plan made her popular with hardcore anglers. She was designed by company owner Joe Nebber with fishability her primary objective. Available with or without a cuddy cabin, the 25’s cockpit layout includes two fully lined and insulated fish boxes and a circular 38-gallon livewell under the deck, aft. The Open model has an additional insulated fish box forward. An oddly-named “convertible” model has a canvas cuddy enclosure with a drop curtain and bunk cushions forward, and the cuddy has a molded fiberglass interior with V-berths and space for a portable head. Additional features include a bench seat forward of the console with storage under, lockable electronics compartment, molded inner liner, and an outboard bracket. Nearly all of these boats have been customized to some degree by their owners, and most were fitted with T-tops and rocket launchers. A rugged fishboat with proven offshore ability, twin 150hp outboards will power the Contender 25 to over 40 knots.
