Cheoy Lee Yachts

83 Cockpit MY

1987–92

In the mid 1980s the concept of an 80-foot fiberglass motor yacht was just that—an idea whose time had not yet arrived. (Today it’s very a different story; semi-production 90-foot yachts are not uncommon these days, and several custom yards are building fiberglass hulls exceeding 150 feet in length.) The Cheoy Lee 83 Cockpit MY was one of the earliest production megayachts affluent buyers could choose from during the 1980s. She was another in a long series of Fexas-designed Cheoy Lee models with the sleek profile and lightweight (fully cored) construction for which the Cheoy Lee yard has become famous. A semi-custom yacht, her wide body floorplan includes two huge master staterooms, two guest staterooms, and two more staterooms forward for the crew. Separate engine rooms allow a corridor to connect the staterooms and pump rooms forward house the generators. Standard 870hp 12V71 Detroit diesels cruise at 16–18 knots, and larger 1,200hp Cat diesels cruise at close to 20 knots. At hull speed (10–11 knots), the range is 2,500+ nautical miles—impressive. The Cheoy Lee 77 Motor Yacht is the same boat without a cockpit.
