Cheoy Lee Yachts
48 Sport Yacht
1980–86
Introduced in 1980, the Fexas-designed 48 Sport Yacht was the first modern sportfishing boat ever offered by the Cheoy Lee yard. She was built on a lightweight, fully cored hull with a relatively flat bottom and moderate beam. Big and dramatic in appearance with a flat black mask running around the deckhouse and a rakish flybridge, her long foredeck gives the 48 Sport Yacht a very distinctive look. Conceived as a competent sport fisherman with elegant interior comforts, the European decor (painted walls) found in early models was quickly replaced with a more traditional teak interior. The original two-stateroom floorplan had the galley aft in the salon, and a unique curved corridor leads from the salon to the master stateroom. Note that an alternate three-stateroom layout with the galley forward in the salon (not shown below) was also available. The cockpit, with a full 140 square feet of space, is huge but the raised deck along the salon bulkhead prohibits the installation of a full-size tackle center. A good performer with 8V92 Detroit diesels, the Cheoy Lee 48 Sport Yacht will cruise around 26 knots (30+ top).
