50 Sportfisherman

1987–90

Cheoy Lee Yachts 50 Sportfisherman
Introduced in 1987 as a replacement for the 48 Sport Yacht, the Cheoy Lee 50 Sportfisherman features greater beam, a third stateroom, and more conservative styling than her predecessor. Airex coring is used extensively in the construction of the hull, deck, and superstructure, resulting in a strong lightweight fisherman with a very good turn of speed. At only 36,000 pounds—very light indeed—the 50 Sportfisherman has the displacement of a much smaller boat. Her three-stateroom floorplan is efficiently arranged with the U-shaped galley forward and separated from the salon by a serving counter. A walkaround double berth is fitted in the master stateroom, and both heads are equipped with separate stall showers. Outside, the side decks are wide, and the uncluttered cockpit is designed for serious fishing activities. The tournament-style flybridge is large for a 50-foot convertible and features a built-in table and seating for eight. Twin 735hp 8V92 diesels cruise the Cheoy Lee 50 Sportfisherman at 25–26 knots (around 28 knots), and later models with twin 800hp Cats cruise at 28 knots and reach top speeds in the neighborhood of 30 knots.
