Cheoy Lee Yachts 66 Sport Yacht
The Cheoy Lee 66 Sport Yacht is more than a little different from most other production yachts of her era and size. Dramatic in appearance even by today’s mega-glitz standards, her high-tech construction and extensive coring materials resulted in a lightweight hull with excellent performance. The Sport Yacht’s unusual four-stateroom floorplan includes full crew quarters forward and features an opulent master stateroom beneath the salon—an arrangement made possible by placing the motors well aft in the hull (and increasing the shaft angles to the max). That the salon isn’t especially roomy is due primarily to the very wide side decks. Outside, an observation deck overlooks the cockpit giving the boat a distinct “yachtfish” profile. Additional features include cockpit access to the (small) engine room, foredeck lounge seating, a bow pulpit, and a full teak interior. The cockpit can easily handle a full-size chair, and a tackle center and cockpit controls were standard. A good performer with standard 870hp 12V71 Detroit diesels, the Cheoy Lee 66 Sport Yacht will cruise at 20–21 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 24 knots.
