66 Fast Motor Yacht

1984–87

Cheoy Lee Yachts 66 Fast Motor Yacht
When she was introduced in 1984, the Fexas-designed Cheoy Lee 66 Fast Motor Yacht represented a radical departure from traditional motor yacht standards. Even today her dramatic European profile, high-tech construction, and innovative floorplan continue to make this yacht the subject of interest among designers and boating enthusiasts. As production models go, the 66 was not a notable sales success since only six were ever constructed. She was built on the same lightweight Airex-cored hull used in the production of the Cheoy Lee 66 Sport Yacht—a notably efficient hull capable of a good turn of speed. By increasing the shaft angles to the maximum possible, Fexas was able to place the motors well aft in the hull and free up some interior space forward. The five-stateroom floorplan is unique—the owner’s stateroom is amidships and the aft stateroom serves as guest quarters. On the downside, the engine room is a tight fit. An excellent performer for her size, standard 600hp 12V71 diesels cruise the 66 MY at 20 knots (23–24 knots top), and the optional 870hp versions cruise at 24–25 knots and reach 30 knots top.
