Distinctively styled and featuring a unique underwater bottom profile, the Cheoy Lee 58 Sportfisherman is certainly one of the more dramatic boats to be found among the ranks of big offshore sportfishermen. This yacht was meant to go fast—construction was high-tech (by the standards of her era) with lightweight Airex and Divinycell coring and unidirectional laminates throughout. The wide-open cockpit includes direct engine room access, molded tackle centers, flush fish boxes, and built-in storage. The flybridge is huge with the helm console set well aft and circular guest seating forward. Inside, the innovative salon of the Cheoy Lee 58 is arranged with two facing sectional sofas forward and the dinette and galley aft—a practical arrangement that eliminates a good deal of traffic through the boat. There are three staterooms on the lower level, two with walkaround double berths. The interior is completely paneled and finished with varnished teak or ash woodwork. A fast boat with 870hp 12V71 diesels, the 58 SF will cruise fully loaded at 26 knots and reach a top speed of 29–30 knots. Later models with twin 800hp Cat diesels run at about the same speeds.
