Silverton Yachts
38 Express
1990–94
The Silverton 38 Express is a boat that may have turned a few heads in the 1990s but whose conservative styling just hasn’t held up very well over the years. She was built on the same hull used for the Silverton 37 Convertible, a proven modified-V design with a wide beam and relatively high freeboard. The mid-cabin floorplan is arranged with double berths in both staterooms, and a unique, though essentially useless Plexiglas window-wall separates the forward stateroom from the salon. The decor is comprised of mostly inexpensive furnishings and earth-tone wall coverings and upholstery. A cluster of six overhead skylights provides the only outside lighting, although the liberal use of mirrors makes the interior seem very open and spacious. Sold with a long list of standard equipment, the 38 Express has a spacious bi-level cockpit with enough fore and aft seating to accommodate a small crowd. A wet bar and icemaker were standard and a transom door opens to the integral swim platform. Twin 355hp Crusader gas engines (with V-drives) will cruise the Silverton 38 Express at 20 knots and deliver a top speed in the high 20s. Note that 425hp Cats were optional.
