Silverton Yachts 28 Sedan
A low price, an efficient interior, and a comfortable ride made the Silverton 28 Sedan a popular boat in the late 1970s with entry-level buyers on a budget. Like all Silvertons of her era, she was built on a solid fiberglass hull with moderate beam and a shallow keel. Inside, the step-down floorplan is arranged on a single level with both the galley and head aft, just inside the salon door. A lower helm was standard (although visibility is poor), and the dinette converts into a double berth in the normal fashion. This is not the most expansive interior to be found in a 28-footer, but practical nonetheless and certainly adequate for weekend family cruising. The cockpit, however, is surprisingly large with plenty of room for light-tackle fishing activities or a few deck chairs. Removable hatches in the cockpit sole provide good access to the engines and V-drives. Topside, a bench seat on the flybridge will seat three adults. Among several power options offered (including single-screw installations), the twin 225hp Chryslers cruise the Silverton 28 Sedan at 20 knots and reach a top speed of just under 30 knots. Note the modest fuel capacity.
