Pacemaker
30-31 Sportfisherman
1987–89
The history of the Pacemaker 30 begins back in 1973 when she was introduced as an inexpensive family fisherman with a big cockpit and generous cabin accommodations. She remained virtually unchanged for several years until 1978 when, in a move to cut costs, Pacemaker engineers were able to combine the flybridge and superstructure into a single mold that eliminated a lot of unnecessary joints, but did nothing to improve her appearance. Despite her modest length, the 30 packed a lot of living space into her hull thanks to a wide beam. Several floorplans were offered over the years, most of which provided berths for six in addition to a small galley and an enclosed head. Her large cockpit allows space for a couple of anglers and their gear, and hatches in the cockpit sole provide good access to the engines. Pacemaker went out of business in 1980 and the molds for the 30 SF went unused until 1987 when the “new” Pacemaker company reintroduced her as the Pacemaker 31—basically the same boat with increased fuel and a new interior. Among several engine options, twin 225hp Chrysler inboards cruise at 16–18 knots (mid 20s top).
