430-460 Classico MKI
With her stout, ship-like appearance, the Ocean Alexander 430 and 460 Classicos (the 460 has a larger cockpit) project the image of serious bluewater cruisers. Indeed, the 430/460 seem massive compared with other boats their size—an impression heightened by a Portuguese bridge, generous freeboard, and unusually tall bulwarks on either side of the pilothouse. They’re built on the same proven hull used in the production of Alexander’s 423 and 426 Classico models with soft chines, cored hullsides, and prop pockets. The floorplan is similar to that of many pilothouse designs with the galley in the salon and a midships master stateroom. The spacious full-width salon is beaujpgully finished with handcrafted teak joinery and visibility from the enclosed pilothouse is excellent. On deck, a centerline gate in the Portuguese bridge provides access to the bow, and molded steps on the port side of the pilothouse lead up to the cabintop where a dinghy can be stored. A cockpit storage lazarette, transom door, and a hinged mast with radar platform were standard. Note that a flybridge was optional. Cummins 220hp diesels will provide a cruising speed of 10 knots and a top speed of 13–14 knots.
