42 Sedan

One of Alexander’s most popular models (about 140 were sold during her 7-year production run), the 42 Sedan is a well-proportioned family cruiser with a sensible layout and a rakish, euro-inspired profile. Like most Ocean Alexander designs, the 42 was built on a weight-efficient modified-V hull with moderate beam, a shallow keel and cored hullsides. An appealing feature of the 42 Sedan is a large cockpit that provides a good deal of open-air entertaining space for family and guests. Her interior is very innovative in that a second (guest) stateroom with twin beds is fitted below the elevated galley. Visibility from the lower helm is very good, and most 42 Sedans were delivered with a full teak interior. Additional features include a transom door and swim platform, a well-arranged bridge with the helm forward (revised in 1990 with seating in front of the helm), serviceable side decks, and excellent interior joinery. A modest performer, standard 250hp Cummins cruise the Alexander 42 Sedan at 14 knots (17–18 knots top), and 375hp Cats (the most popular choice) will cruise at 20–21 knots and reach a top speed of about 25 knots. Note that the Alexander 46 Sedan is the same boat with an extended salon.
