Mikelson Yachts
61 Sportfisher
2000–08
Even with the growing popularity of pilothouse motor yachts in recent years, Mikelson’s decision to introduce a pilothouse sport fisherman was an innovative concept. This is a good-looking yacht—a completely different style from standard convertible designs—with the luxury interior accommodations of a pilothouse motor yacht and the king-size cockpit dimensions of a good fishing boat. With nearly 19 feet of beam, the Mikelson 61 is an unusually spacious boat and her three-stateroom interior includes a huge, full-width master stateroom beneath the pilothouse. Both the galley and dinette are on the pilothouse level, and the expansive salon will entertain a small crowd. The cockpit, a few steps down from the salon level, is equally large and includes a handy day head as well as direct engine room access. Topside, the extended flybridge (accessible from either the cockpit or the pilothouse) can accommodate a dinghy. Additional features include a sliding deck door at the lower helm, very wide side decks, cherry interior cabinetry, a huge engine room, and a fiberglass hardtop. Twin 800hp Cat diesels cruise at 20 knots (mid 20s top). Larger 1,400hp Cats are good for speeds up to 30 knots.
