Luhrs Yachts
Tournament 290
1989–90
The Luhrs 290 (note that an earlier Luhrs 290 was built from 1986–88) is a twin-inboard walkaround fishing boat with a wide 11-foot beam and a versatile deck layout The 290 is something of a rarity—most walkarounds this size are powered with either twin outboards or a single sterndrive engine. Built on a solid fiberglass hull, the 290 came standard with an impressive array of fishing features. The seating module has a bench seat for two with a bait and tackle station aft flanked by a pair of aft-facing seats. (The seat assembly also doubles as an engine box.) A marlin tower with controls was standard as were a pair of in-deck fish boxes and a standup transom livewell. Note the lack of a windshield at the helm—some kind of plex-curtain or enclosure will be necessary for running at higher speeds. Below deck, cabin headroom measures 6 feet, 3 inches and the accommodations include an enclosed head with shower, full galley with sink, refrigerator, and electric stove, and berths for four. Additional features include a bow pulpit, anchor locker, pressure water, and rod storage. Standard 240hp gas engines cruise at 20–22 knots (about 30 knots wide open).
