Luhrs Yachts Tournament 290
The first of three Luhrs models bearing the 290 designation, the Luhrs 290 has the power and seaworthiness to run in the company of bigger boats and the cockpit space to handle serious fishing activities. She’s built on a modified-V hull with a double chine and a relatively steep 17 degrees of deadrise at the transom. An out-and-out fishing boat, the 290 has a large bi-level cockpit with roughly 60 square feet of fishing area on the lower level. Three lift-out fish boxes provide good access to the rudder posts and bilges, and a cockpit washdown and coaming padding were standard. The accommodations below are simple but nicely finished with oak paneling and a teak and holly sole. The dinette converts to a double berth and cabin headroom is just over 6 feet. The wide cabin of the 290 results in relatively narrow side decks and foredeck access can be a little difficult. Notably, all of these boats were sold with a standard factory marlin tower. A bow pulpit was standard. Twin 270hp Crusaders were standard (22 knots cruise/about 30 knots top) with GM 6.2 diesels offered as an option.
