Talaria 42
1990–98
The Hinckley Talaria 42 is an elegant Down East cruiser for those able to afford the luxury of owning a finely crafted yacht from one of America’s preeminent boat builders. (Note that she was introduced in 1990 as a 39-footer—two were built, basically the same as the 42 but with a smaller cockpit.) Constructed on a Kevlar-strengthened, semi-displacement hull with a long, prop-protecting keel, the superior craftsmanship of the Talaria is evident in every corner of the boat. Two floorplans were offered: a single-stateroom layout with a spacious salon and the galley down, and a two-stateroom arrangement with the galley in the salon. A lower helm is standard, and the beaujpgul teak interior woodwork is flawless. (Note that the cabin sole “floats” on rubber bushings to reduce vibration.) Additional features include wide side decks, an underwater exhaust system, teak cockpit sole, radar mast and a big cockpit. Among several engine options, a single 435hp Cat (or 520hp MAN) diesel will cruise at 16–17 knots and reach a top speed of around 22 knots. Of the 17 built, only one was delivered with twin engines.
