Glacier Bay
3470 Ocean Runner
2005–08
Big catamaran cruisers are a rare breed in U.S. waters—only a few have been built by Glacier Bay and Pro-Cat combined. The 3470 Ocean Runner (shown here with an optional hardtop) is a beefy offshore express whose chief attraction lies at the heart of any good catamaran design: a super-smooth ride and best-in-class fuel economy. Like most express boats, the Ocean Runner splits the difference between offshore fisherman and family cruiser. Her large cockpit has room enough for four anglers, and the expansive deck layout of the 3470 rivals many 40-footers in size. Fishing amenities include a 45-gallon livewell, bait prep station, tackle boxes, and under-gunwale rod storage. The bridge deck has an L-shaped settee around a dining table, across from a refreshment center with refrigerator. Note the wraparound dash at the helm. Below, the galley is in the starboard hull with a guest stateroom aft, and the master stateroom is forward in the port hull and the head—with separate stall shower—is aft. The 4'x6' swim platform can stow an inflatable tender. No lightweight, Cummins 380hp V-drive diesels reach 28–30 knots top; twin 250hp outboards top out at close to 28 knots.
