Introduced in 1987, the Carver 27 Santego (called the Carver 630 Santego during 1991–92 and 300 Santego in 1993) is a contemporary widebody express aimed at the entry-level cruiser market. Carver sold a ton of these boats—few 27-footers could boast the interior space of the Santego, and her “express bridge” layout offered the advantages of an elevated helm while still keeping the captain close to the cockpit. Entering the spacious salon (with standing headroom) from the aft deck, a full-service galley with two-burner cooktop, refrigerator, and storage drawers is to starboard. A standup head with sink and shower is opposite and sliding cabin windows provide good interior ventilation. Around the full width of the front of the salon is a semicircular settee with a dinette that converts to a double berth. Forward of that is a small V-berth for two kids or—more likely—storage. Privacy curtains separate the fore and aft sleeping areas from the salon. Outdoor seating includes an L-shaped lounge on the bridge and a transom seat in the cockpit. A hatch in the cockpit sole provides access to the engines. Built on a solid fiberglass hull with a wide 10-foot beam, twin 205hp stern drives cruise the Santego at 19–20 knots.
