HMY Yachts recently invited John Burnham, Editorial Director for Boats.com and Yachtworld.com, to test drive the new flagship model from Cruisers Yachts – the 60 Cantius. As John first stepped onto the boat, he immediately noticed the inviting aft cockpit area that included two bar stools, grill, well-designed seating, fridge, and ice-maker. A bona fide test drive of the 60 Cantius by Cruisers Yachts should include you and your spouse and your two best friends—ready for a weekend cruise—plus a couple dozen friends and relations to drink to your health at a dockside bon voyage party. Yes, the 60 Cantius is a good-looking two-couple weekender, and it’s also laid out with more than enough social space to make you the consummate host.
On our test run of the biggest Cantius yet, we did something different. We filmed a video review, and proved in the process that there was plenty of room to fit a large production crew and their equipment, as well.
The Cruisers Yachts’ designers made some clear decisions at the outset with this model. First of all, they gave it a distinctively different styling from the previous Cantius models. The reverse sheer of the deck line combines nicely with the curves of the cabinhouse to create a more modern, Euro-style look. Note, future Cantius models will likely follow this pattern.
Beneath that, the boat was laid out with a few clear American intentions. First, this would be an owner-driven boat, with no sleeping accommodation needed for a captain. Second, the owner could do without a large dinghy garage in the transom. Third, a pair of Volvo IPS pod drives would make handling this boat easier and would be set as far aft as possible.
In exchange, the belowdecks quarters became remarkably spacious, with a huge amidships master stateroom and a large VIP stateroom in the bow. In between, the two cabins are separated by a well-lit atrium and an area to starboard that can fit a small cabin with bunks or a quiet lounge area, instead.
By contrast, the main deck is chock full of abutting spaces for cooking, dining, sunbathing, swimming, even running the vessel. An ample stern platform connects with a great cockpit featuring an informal dining area that can be converted to a sun pad. That’s just aft of a grill and bar area that readily chats up the cook or bartender when the galley window is open…..
