HMY played a significant part in the record-breaking numbers—they were recognized as the number one Princess dealer for North America for the 2018 model year.
After several years of selling their yachts in the U.S. under the Viking Sports Cruisers brand, these striking yachts produced in the U.K. are now selling like hot cakes under their original Princess name. Leading that charge is HMY, who was recognized as the #1 North American Princess Yachts dealer in 2018.
Always pushing the limits, like the other builders on this list, Princess recently made waves in the yachting industry with what some considered a risky proposition—the envelope-pushing R35. By all measures the boat is a success and one thing’s for sure—it’s a work of art.
Founded in 1965 as Marine Projects Ltd., Princess Yachts has grown into one of the finest luxury yachting brands in the world, producing beautifully elegant and innovative designs that continue to grow in sophistication and technology. The powerful and sleek hulls of every model offer a unique combination of speed, maneuverability, efficiency, and gracefulness, crowning Princess as the perfect yacht for any passage.
The Princess flybridge motor yacht style didn’t emerge until the 1970s, but the flagship high-performance V-hull design helped catapult Princess to the forefront of its niche in design and sales. Adding Volvo inboard diesels for serious performance in 1975 helped solidify Princess Yachts’ place in the market. By the 80s, Princess had begun a long-standing relationship with legendary yacht designer Bernard Olesinski, which still exists today. By the end of the decade, they had also constructed the famous Plymouth yacht manufacturing facility.
In the mid 90s, the larger V-Class sport yachts were being constructed, bolstering sales worldwide with the powerful propulsion and seaworthiness that owners had been looking for in a quality, proven luxury yacht brand. By the end of the 90s, the new headquarters and a new manufacturing plant, provided for serious output, and the Princess 52 was delivered as their first electronic diesel engine in Europe.
In 2000, the flagship V Class sports yachts were delivered, starting with the Princess V65, and in 2001, Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd. officially became Princess Yachts International, and the production facilities began to grow even more. In 2012, the Princess 40M Class superyacht was delivered, and the Princess V52 was awarded best Sport Cruiser, while the chairman and founder, David King, was awarded the Judge’s Special Award at the Motor Boat of the Year Awards. Winning numerous awards since then, the Princess brand is one to be reckoned with, considering its constant innovations and desire to raise the bar again and again in its market. It’s safe to say that they will be around for a long time to come.
