Since its 2019 arrival in the U.S., Nimbus has understandably been met with enthusiasm by domestic boaters. Ideal for day boating, their Weekender, Tender, and Commuter (“WTC”) line showcases the Swedish boat maker’s penchant for practicality, with ergonomic features and functionality infused into every detail.
Now, Nimbus is further expanding their footprint, bringing us the vessels for which they’ve become known in their native Europe: specifically the coupe series, including their new flagship — the eagerly awaited 495 Flybridge. Here’s a look at what’s soon to come from Nimbus and HMY.
Venturing Further: Cruising The Great Loop, Bahamas & Beyond
While Nimbus made its original mark in the U.S. with their WTC line, the coupe series stands out as a separate class of boating. This line encompasses five models ranging in size from 33 to 50 feet: the 305, 365, and 405 Coupes, as well as the 405 and 495 Flybridges. These inboard, diesel-powered motors are a departure from the outboard-driven WTC models, offering greater flexibility for exploring further afield. The sleek series is powered by Volvo’s popular marine package, an obvious choice, since Nimbus was born out of the Swedish carmaker’s first foray into nautical engines. Each coupe is equipped with either a single D6 engine or twin D4s.
Nimbus also introduces several key features in their coupe series ideal for longer excursions. Owners/operators seeking overnight accommodations to cruise the Intercoastal, hit a variety of marinas up and down the coast, or take an extended trip to the Bahamas will appreciate the line’s well-equipped cabin. Their sensible, less-is-more approach is apparent in all models, but truly shines throughout the coupe series. Marked by understated elegance, the 495 in particular has a stylish forward cabin, a hydraulic swim platform with a dinghy cradle system, a shower-equipped head, a table with comfortable seating, a proper salon with a TV and couch lounging area, and a cooktop and galley. Including an enclosure for protection against the elements or open-air entertainment in mild conditions, its practical options are appealing for boaters of all preferences.
For these reasons and more, Nimbus’ appeal is becoming increasingly apparent in the U.S. market. Visit any marina in Europe and you’re likely to find a smattering of the Scandinavian vessels, but their novelty in the U.S. has made them a rarer sight here — though not for long. A Peek Aboard the 495

Powered by twin 650 Volvo Penta IPS650 motors, the 495 cruises around 22 to 24 knots, with a top speed of 27 to 29 knots. Steady and sure, the 495 is comfortable even in rough conditions (which Nick witnessed firsthand during a voyage through four-to-six-foot seas during his visit). Its Garmin Dock Assist system is especially impressive: similar to a car with a backup camera, it makes docking the 495 a breeze.
What’s Next for Nimbus & HMY
The 495 Flybridge is currently available for pre-order, with an anticipated arrival date of 2025.
