Tournament Fishing: Center Console Style

Tournament Fishing: Center Console Style

By Reiley Hutchinson   February 1, 2022

We are seeing more and more center consoles join the tournament circuit every year. We reached out to a couple of our yacht sales professionals who have been fishing this season in their own center consoles, and they let us in on some of the perks that come from tournament fishing onboard a center console.

Yacht Sales Professional, Luke Davis, fishes on the 2020 Freeman 42LR, Off Course.

Luke mentioned the fishability center consoles provide. Luke Davis accredits a lot of his team’s success this year to the unobstructed 360-degree walk-around space his Center Console provides. 360-degree fishing is a key feature of center console boats. This feature on center consoles easily allows anglers to utilize the entire boat and deck space, allowing you to fish the boat from every angle. This makes a difference for anglers and captains while fighting sailfish. Anglers are able to maneuver around the boat instead of relying on their captain to move the boat to keep the fish in front of them.

Luke Davis and the Off Course Fishing Team took the daily on day 1, top tag boat, and 2nd overall at the 2022 Silver Sailfish Derby in the beginning of January. As well as 4th overall, and 1st in semi-pro at the 2021 Dust ‘Em Off Sailfish Warm-up in the beginning of December.

Yacht Sales Professional, Jeff Creary, fishes his 2008 31T Contender, Chasin Sails.

Jeff talked about the speed center consoles have. Today center consoles can reach nearly 80 miles per hour in the right conditions. Whether moving just a short distance or completely relocating to find fish, center consoles can do this quickly and efficiently. Jeff Creary and Team HMY recently fished Chasin Sails in the 2022 Fish for Holly Tournament in Islamorada, FL at the beginning of January. They went 2/2 for the day.

If you’re looking for the right personal boat to get you out on the water, our team can help with that too. View HMY’s inventory online today.
