Fish Tales and Boat Sales: Meet Tim Gredick of HMY Yacht Sales
Hailing from the South Carolina Coast is HMY Yacht Sales professional and Viking Yacht expert, Tim Gredick. We had the opportunity to discuss who Tim Gredick really is. Not only is Gredick a knowledgeable broker, but an avid angler. His career and relationships built over the past two decades have taken him to world-class fishing destinations around the Globe.
Gredick’s career in the maritime industry started shortly after meeting HMY owner, Steve Moynihan, and Doc Austin at the Charleston Harbor Billfish Classic in 1999. “My wife was the tournament director and I had volunteered to be the weighmaster. A year later in 2000, they pursued me.”
Fast forward a year, and Gredick dove headfirst into the brokerage world. Tim was able to enrich his customers' experiences from start to finish with the sportfishing knowledge he brought to the playing field. “I started out fishing the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Series, and as my clients got larger boats, I began to travel with them. We’d travel for the Big Rock, White Marlin Open, the Mid-Atlantic, Bermuda, Panama, Costa Rica... really all over!”
To this day, the historic Governor’s Cup Series is held near to Gredick’s heart. He continues to fish these tournaments as a member of the Governor’s Cup Board. The rich sportfishing history this tournament series brings with it is what Gredick has been grateful to share with his clients and family. Gredick’s son started tournament fishing with him in 2019 in the Governor’s Cup Series. Young Will Gredick was fishing with longtime friends and clients onboard “Man Cave”. Will secured the 1st place Junior Angler award and the client’s daughter took the 2nd place Junior Angler award in the CBC tournament.
Gredick takes pride in having the ability to educate younger generations in the sportfishing world and pass along his knowledge. “It’s a wonderful experience, seeing the kids get all fired up about catching sailfish.”
Tournament fishing has taken Gredick to locations beyond the US such as Bermuda, Panama, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. Fish stories were shared from time onboard the Viking 60 Demo in the waters off the coast of Venezuela. “We had a memorable trip with clients onboard. In one day, we landed 5 blue marlins, 3 white marlins, but unfortunately missed two sailfish. Almost a double grand slam!”
Gredick has also fished the Viking demo on multiple occasions. out of Charleston, South Carolina. Most recently, onboard the Viking 80 Demo in 2021.
“Both Viking and the Viking Demo Team are at the top of their game. They’re always looking at the little things to give you an advantage, and that’s why each boat built is better than the last.”
Gredick has acquired a tremendous amount of knowledge on Viking product, fishing with the demo over the years. “Each client's needs differ, depending on how they are planning to use the boat. I help with customizing the boat start to finish.”
“The great thing about fishing with clients is that they all become friends. This is my favorite part of the job.” Tim Gredick’s unmatched knowledge in the sportfishing world, paired with his product experience, allows him to assist his customers throughout the entire process from specking out a new build to maintaining, fishing, and selling current sportfish.
