40 Motor Yacht

1979–84

Trojan Yachts 40 Motor Yacht
Built on a “dual-mode” hull capable of low-speed economy as well as planing-speed performance, the 40 Motor Yacht was Trojan’s response to the fuel uncertainties of the late 1970s. She’s a handsome yacht even by today’s standards with a classic profile and less freeboard than many of her more modern counterparts. Below deck, the interior of the Trojan 40 is centered on an expansive salon surrounded by large cabin windows. A serving counter to port overlooks the galley, and hatches in the salon sole provide access to the well-arranged engine room. Note that a lower helm was a popular option. Interestingly, there’s no dinette in this layout—unusual in a boat this size. Topside, the full-width aft deck is a spacious entertaining platform with room for a small crowd. An unusual feature of the Trojan 40 MY is her underwater exhaust system—only a few builders were using them in the early 1980s. Among several engine options, 310hp 6-71N diesels cruise the 40 MY at 14–15 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 17 knots. Note that the Trojan 47 Yacht Fisherman (1981–82) is the same boat with a cockpit extension.
