40 Tri-Cabin MY

1970–79

Tollycraft Yachts 40 Tri-Cabin MY
Introduced in 1970, the 40 Tri-Cabin was the first big yacht ever built by Tollycraft. A conservative design, she features a straightforward double-cabin interior with the galley in the salon and wraparound cabin windows. The aft stateroom is particularly spacious for a boat this size and came with twin single berths and direct access to the cockpit (a double berth was optional). Sliding deck doors are located port and starboard in the salon, and the interior woodwork was updated from mahogany to teak in 1977. Note that the only stall shower is in the aft head. Typical of West Coast boats, the Tollycraft 40 Tri-Cabin has extra-wide side decks and a complete lower helm station. Her big aft deck is roomy enough for entertaining or dinghy storage. Construction is solid fiberglass, and the engineering and workmanship were state-of-the-art in her era. Additional features include a transom door in the cockpit, swim platform, and plenty of storage. Standard 350hp gas engines provide a cruising speed of 16–17 knots and a top speed in the mid 20s. Optional 210hp Cat diesels will average an efficient 1 mpg at a steady 15-knot cruising speed (about 18 knots top).
