Renegade 60
1991–95
Impressive from a distance and enormous up close, the Renegade 60 stands apart from other high-performance express yachts thanks to her exotic waterjet propulsion, an Italian-made water-drive system that pumps some 32,000 gallons of water per minute at full throttle. The result is a top speed of just over 45 knots—a good deal faster than a conventional prop-driven boat this size can reach. (Surface drives, however, will attain these higher speeds as well, although they’re a lot noisier.) Jet drives make boat-handling a strange sensation, and this is certainly not a yacht in which to make your first attempt at backing into a tight berth. Like all Sunseeker models, the 60 Renegade is finished to extremely high production-boat standards. Notable features include an elegant three-stateroom interior with two full heads, a beaujpgully engineered cockpit with a huge mid-cockpit settee/dinette and a garage under the aft sun lounge with a retractable hoist to lower the dinghy into the water. A completely impressive yacht with an exciting blend of luxury and performance, the 60 Renegade’s complicated drive system—and the associated maintenance requirements—limits her appeal with many boat buyers.
