Manhattan 48
1995–99
Sunseeker’s Manhattan 48 (called the 46 Manhattan in 1995) is a beaujpgully finished Mediterranean motor yacht with a streamlined profile and the kind of performance American buyers have come to expect in motor yacht designs. Like most European production yachts, she’s built on a deep-V hull with moderate beam and prop pockets to reduce draft. The two-level floorplan of the Manhattan is made possible by locating the engines under the cockpit rather than fitting them under the salon where they’re found in most motor yachts. The galley is down in this three-stateroom layout, and both heads are fitted with separate stall showers. While the salon dimensions are fairly modest, the leather upholstery, lacquered woodwork, and matching vinyl overheads create a rich and very appealing impression. Visibility from the elevated lower helm is excellent. Sliding glass doors open to the cockpit and swim platform (which can accommodate a PWC). Topside, there’s seating for six on the flybridge plus extra sunbathing space. A teak cockpit sole, foredeck sun pad, and radar arch were standard. A good-running yacht, twin 430hp V-drive Cat diesels cruise the 48 Manhattan at 22 knots (high 20s top).
