Pershing Yachts 37
There’s no shortage of midsize European sportcruisers in the U.S. market these days, most of which are sterndrive powered. Pershing’s choice of inboard power for the 37 is a genuine departure from the norm. By opting for inboards rather than sterndrives, top speed is sacrificed in exchange for the lower maintenance and increased reliability of inboards. Few, however, will dispute the quality of the Pershing 37; this is an expensive boat built to very high production standards. The styling is superb, however the interior—with its plush aft-facing U-shaped lounge—is somewhat less spacious than similar boats her size because of a modest beam and the fact that the engines are further forward than they would be in a sterndrive boat. In the cockpit, a table stored under the floor can be deployed at the touch of a button. The helm is to port (unusual), and the sun pad aft raises on a hydraulic ram for access to the motors. A walkthrough is provided to the extended swim platform, but narrow side decks make bow access difficult. A relatively light boat for her size, twin 350-hp 3116 Cat (V-drive) diesels cruise at the Pershing 37 at 30 knots and reach a top speed of 33–34 knots.
