The Nordhavn 40 is a ballasted full-displacement cruiser capable of extended bluewater passages. The 40 was originally built in California (by Pacific Seacraft); beginning in 2004, however, MK II models were constructed in Taiwan. The interior is arranged with two staterooms, a large master with island queen bed forward, and amidships guest cabin to port with single bunks (the lower bunk extends to create a double berth). Entering the salon from the cockpit, the Nordhavn’s spacious full-beam salon is highlighted by varnished teak cabinets and posh Ultraleather upholstery. A curved dinette is to starboard, and the U-shaped galley forward includes granite counters and Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer. Up four steps to the pilothouse with its settee, teak table, twin Dutch doors, and panoramic views of the water. The engine room is accessed through a watertight door in the guest stateroom. Additional features include washer/dryer space (guest stateroom), Yanmar 27hp wing engine, bow and stern thrusters, and a small cockpit with molded seats and a huge lazarette below. A dry stack exhaust and keel cooling system were standard. A single 105hp Lugger diesel provides a cruising speed of 7-8 knots.
