Mainship Yachts
40 Motor Cruiser
1980–84
Following in the wake of the highly successful Mainship 34, the Mainship 40 Motor Cruiser continued the classic, trawler-style profile of her predecessor while retaining the dependability and economy of diesel power. She wasn’t a popular model for Mainship (only 20 were sold), but there’s a lot to like about this boat for the cruising couple. Indeed, because she has only a single stateroom below, the full-beam salon is unusually wide open and spacious. The pilothouse, on the salon level, is separated from it by a bulkhead with an open doorway to port. The galley is forward in the salon, and a second head is located just inside the sliding cockpit door. The forward stateroom is very roomy and includes an angled double berth in addition to a built-in dresser and private head (with a shower stall). The salon sofa can be converted to a double berth for occasional guests, but otherwise the Mainship 40 is a two-sleeper. Topside, the extended flybridge is huge for a 40-footer with enough deck area to entertain a small crowd. Note the raised bulwarks around the walkways. Twin 165hp Perkins diesels cruise at 10–11 knots burning just one gallon per hour.
