Hatteras Yachts
82 Convertible
1992–2003
For a brief time, the Hatteras 82 was the largest full-production convertible available in the country. Aa production fiberglass yacht over eighty feet was just a dream in the early 1990s, but Hatteras idenjpgied a market for such a boat with a select group of well-heeled sport fishermen. Designed as a crewed yacht (with crew quarters beneath the afterdeck, not forward), her extravagant triple-deck profile includes a two-station enclosed skylounge bridge, four staterooms with full heads, a vast salon/deckhouse galley and entertainment area, and a huge tournament-style cockpit. Notable features of the Hatteras 82 include a circular stairwell in the salon for access to the bridge, a full-beam master suite with his-and-her heads, utility/work room, large observation (mezzanine) deck overlooking the cockpit, and an optional day head on the deckhouse level. The huge motors are almost lost in the spacious standup engineroom with its direct cockpit access. Twin 1,450hp 16V92 Detroit diesels cruise at 20 knots (about 24 knots top), and a pair of Duetz 12V-604s cruise at 24 knots and top out at around 28 knots. Note that the Hatteras 86 and 90 Convertible models are basically the same boat with larger cockpits.
